10 Essential Oils DIYs to Replace Things You Already Use

To make the journey to a more natural lifestyle just a little bit easier, we’ve put together 10 quick and easy essential oil DIYs that you can swap in for things you already use. And you won’t have to worry about mystery ingredients or harsh chemicals since you’ll be making them yourselves. You can know exactly what goes into the products you use around your house. Plus you can enjoy the natural benefits of your essential oils. It’s a win-win!

All-Purpose Cleaner

​

Keep your counters sparkling and your kitchen clean with this super simple All-Purpose Cleaner.

​

What you’ll need:

  • 5 oz (about 150mL) water

  • 3 oz (about 90mL) white vinegar

  • 1 tsp dish soap

  • 8 drops Blood Orange

  • 6 drops Tea Tree

  • 4 drops Eucalyptus Globulus

  • 8 oz spray bottle

​

What you’ll do:

Add everything to the bottle and shake to mix. Spray and wipe off to clean!

​

Disclaimer: Due to the water content, this product should be stored in the fridge and used within a week. Otherwise, add a preservative, such as Optiphen Plus or Germall Plus.

​

Window Cleaner

​

A good window cleaner doesn’t have to be blue! All you need is your favorite citrus oil, it doesn’t have to be Lime.

​

What you’ll need:

  • 1½ cups white vinegar

  • ½ cup distilled water

  • 8 drops Lime

  • 16-ounce spray bottle

​

What you’ll do:

Put all ingredients in the bottle. Shake well before use. Store in the fridge and try to use within a couple weeks.

​

Dusting Spray

​

Enjoy the fresh, lemony scent of May Chang and Lemon while grabbing the dust off your surfaces, the natural way!

​

What you will need:

  • 6 drops Jojoba Carrier Oil

  • 7 drops Lemon

  • 3 drops May Chang

  • 4 ounces water

  • 4 oz Spray Bottle

What you’ll do:

Simply spray and wipe, I like using a microfiber cloth.  Shake well before each use. Store in the fridge and use after a week.

​

Bathroom Odor Eliminator

​

We all have business to do in the bathroom. But that doesn’t mean you have to be stuck with lingering smells.

​

What you’ll need:

  • 4 oz spray bottle

  • 1 Tbsp vegetable glycerin

  • 3.5 oz distilled water

  • 1.5 ml (approximately 45 drops) Optiphen Plus

  • 20 drops Saro

  • 15 drops Lemon

  • 5 drops Balsam Fir

What you’ll do:

Add vegetable glycerin, Optiphen Plus, and essential oils to the spray bottle. Stir or swirl to combine. Add water to fill and shake prior to each use. Spray into toilet water prior to using the restroom. This creates a barrier to the water, as well as releases a pleasant scent into the room.

 

Outdoor Spray

An outdoor excursion can quickly be ruined by, you guessed it, bugs. Instead of spraying yourself down with harsh chemicals, use this Outdoor Spray to help keep out those pesky, unwanted guests. You can also substitute one of our blends, Nature Shield or Shield Me.

What you’ll need:

  • 3 oz Everclear

  • 1 oz Organic Fractionated Coconut Oil

  • 40 drops Citronella

  • 15 drops Geranium Bourbon

  • 10 drops Rosalina

  • 5 drops Patchouli

​

What you’ll do:

Mix essential oils and Everclear in a 4-ounce bottle. Add water and shake well before each use.

 

Face Serum

​

Fabulous, glowy skin doesn’t have to come with a hefty price tag. Instead, use the skin-nourishing power of Carrot Seed, Ylang Ylang and Frankincense.

​

What you’ll need:

  • 2 tsp Jojoba Carrier Oil

  • 1 tsp Meadowfoam Carrier Oil

  • 2 drops Frankincense Frereana

  • 1 drop Carrot Seed

  • 1 drop Ylang Ylang Complete

​

What you’ll do:

Blend essential oils and carrier oils together thoroughly. Massage onto face after cleansing.

 

Body Cream

​

Keep your skin soft and silky smooth with this fabulous evening body cream.

​

What you’ll need:

  • 1.5 ounces Shea Butter

  • 1.5 ounces Solid Coconut Oil

  • .5 ounces Rosehip Carrier Oil

  • .5 ounces Jojoba Carrier Oil

  • 18 drops Frankincense Frereana

  • 9 drops Lavender Fine

  • 7 drops Geranium Egyptian

  • 2 drops Sea Fennel

  • 4 oz tin

What you’ll do:

Mix together shea butter and solid coconut oil. In a separate bowl, blend carrier oils with essential oils and add to shea butter and coconut oil. Whip together for 5 minutes and store in an airtight container. Apply to a clean face or body in the evening.

 

Shaving Oil

​

Shaving cream from a can not only comes with an overpowering aroma but can also make it kind of hard to see what you’re doing.  This shaving oil is lightweight, moisturizing and smells of fresh lavender.

​

What you’ll need:

  • 1.3 ounces Organic FCO

  • 0.7 ounces Sunflower Oil

  • 6 drops Lavender Fine

  • 1 drop Rose Absolute

  • 1 drop Bergamot

​

What you’ll do:

Mix your carrier oils and essential oils in a small bowl. Apply to wet legs, and shave as usual.

 

Lip Balm

​

Keep those lips soft and moisturized with an easy and natural DIY lip balm!

What you’ll need:

  • 1 tsp. Beeswax Pearls

  • 1 tsp. Shea Butter

  • 1 tsp. Solid Coconut Oil

  • 3 drops Love Vanilla

  • Tubes or circular tin for storage

What you’ll do:

Place beeswax, shea butter, and coconut oil in a glass bowl set over a pan of simmering water and heat until melted. Stir in essential oils. Pour into tins or tubes and allow the mixture to cool before capping.
